I read this biography in college. I was able to draw several conclusions from the chapters. Chapter 1. A scandal would harm her adopted son. Chapter 2. A really good leader can attract a lot of admirers. Chapter 3. By not trying to outdo others, she created a very tolerant church. Chapter 4. A Concord newspaper owner thought Mary Baker Eddy was a fake. Political Interlude. To introduce Christian Science on Mainland China was dangerous. Chapter 5. The establishment of the Committee on Publication was greatly needed at the time of a court case that was filled with propaganda against her church. Chapter 6. Teachers and readers in the East would be better off if they had solid learning and culture. Interlude Semantic. A mistaken metaphysical concept is a topic at a meeting with Governors of the church. Chapter 7. She said much work needed to be done. Chapter 8. She decided that the Mother Church reader should become the reader at the Concord church. Chapter 9. She immediately was sure Einstein had made a great discovery. Chapter 10. She thinks it is vital for anyone to demonstrate this Science. At times while reading the biography I was reminded of the period in history when German scholars inspired Charles Briggs to question the authorship of the Bible, the biblical account of Creation, and the divinity of Jesus.

Mary Baker Eddy was a controversial woman, and biographers often either laud or vilify her depending on their personal bias. Peel's 3-volume biography is a welcome departure from this pattern. His work is carefully researched, with extensive references, and is probably the most definitive and complete biography of Mrs. Eddy on record. His impartial, objective viewpoint lets the reader make up his or her own mind regarding a noted religious and historical figure.

This review refers to the paperback edition. This is a somewhat short collection of five stories featuring Inspector Wexford, a person whose age and position are similar to Inspector Morse (as seen on PBS). Four of the stories are set in England, and one on the Adriatic coast where Inspector Wexford and his wife were on vacation. Three of the stories involve murders, one a case of switched children, and the last an attempt to reopen an older, historic case. The settings seem to be in roughly the 1970's to 1980 time frame.

I personally thought that the plots were quite good for shorter stories. The stories reflect English laws and customs, so guns are not used and the violence is considerably less than in the macho, have-gun-will-travel, type novel often found in the U.S. (perhaps this is why many people like English mysteries). The characters come across well, and the plots are well developed. In one case, a guilty party is identified, but there is some question as to whether the guilt can be proven in court.

This is a very, very good short story collection. Each of the stories within is a little gem of detective fiction./ they are just as ingenious as any of her novels, the crimes just as compelling and the psychology just as accurate. the characters are well drawn and Wexford is on absolutely brilliant form.

They are clever, incredibly enjoyable, and unguessable. They are an excellent showcase of all Rendell's talents, and i would reccomend this short story collection to any fan of detective fiction. Enjoyment is guaranteed.

I was pleasantly surprised to see several of my toy concepts presented in Ms. Baker's book, "Modern Toys". As Vice President of Product Concept & Development for Creative Playthings of CBS Toys, in the late 70's, when the broadcast giant also delivered quality educational and learning toys and games, my group birthed what I now frequently grace the tables of flea-markets and yard-sales. One series, "Block Family", is represented in the "Who-Sit?" category, to which I quickly responded with patent details for Linda's "next book", which I sincerely hope she may produce. I grew up with many of the classics in her array, and applaude her for preserving, at least in print, memories for millions of youngsters, of a more simpler period in childhood-Americana.

This book has a selection of toy pictures from all the big toy manufactuers, with an extensive section on Fisher Price, both for little people and their earlier push toys. A great book to go to for reference when I am checking on a set's piece count or number. The color pictures are wonderful, but coverage can be spotty....that is, not all toy manufacturers and their lines are as fully represented as I would like them to be. Nevertheless, this is one of my main toy reference books. Feel free to email me if you would like to know how well a certain manufacturer is represented, and I will be happy to look it up for you.

Students really got involved in science investigation as they tried to solve one of the mysteries in this book. During a summer camp for children ages 9-12, we used the mystery written for the older students. They loved the hands-on involvement and stayed engrossed all week. If your science curriculum is putting your students to sleep, this book will help you jumpstart their interest. There are two different mysteries. One is designed for K-3 while the other works well with the older students. Even students of mixed ages and abilities worked well together and were successful. The students only had one complaint...The book did not give them a definitive answer as to who was the guilty party. They wanted to be told who the criminal was and why, but had to settle for a deduction of their own. Although I find value in that open-ended style, they were frustrated by it.

This book is absolutely amazing! It contains two different mysteries to solve (one for younger grades and one for older grades). In a practicum for my teaching degree we did the older grades mystery with a class of fifth graders and they loved it. They were able to look for clues, gather evidence, map the crime scene, scientifically test the evidence, use deductive reasoning to solve the mystery and much, much, more. The educational value of this book is tremendous. A great supplement for the science curriculum and also to help kids to use logic and reasoning. It's a must have for all teachers!

I think that this book sould be a best-seller because it contents a lot of profitable information about Josephine.

When I read Wayne's book it really started a creative process within me. I also writes about personal networking, and Wayne has given me a lot of ideas working on. A book that must be read!

With a pleasingly simple vocabulary perfect for first and second grade readers, this book captures the pleasures of a family spending a Saturday together. Ms. Baker is a fine writer.

This is a wonderful book! Parents will recognize the everyday situations families experience, and it's a treat to see patience and kindness portrayed by these bears with their kids. Children like the gentle story; early readers can feel confidence as they spot words and phrases they can successfully read. Told from each family member's point of view, the story of their afternoon unfolds with appreciation of everyone's unique experience of life. It's delightful.

This is a good basic book for understanding the underworkings of Oracle's development tools. While SQL Forms is an old Oracle product, the tips are still relevant.
